Welcome! My name is Alaina Smith and I'm a 2D animator/character designer with a soft spot for all things fiction and fantasy. I graduated with a BFA in animation from the College for Creative Studies in 2023, and have worked on a smattering of projects for First Fight as a freelance animator since.
What I love most about my craft is the ability to spark emotion and bring characters with a wide range of expression to life. When I'm animating, I can push and pull how expressive a character is with their actions, and successive reactions, to the world around them--the way a subtle emotion flicks across their face, or how they dramatically storm out of a room. And with character design I can do the same by manipulating a character's shape language and stylistic choices in a way that best represents who they are.
Whenever I'm not hunched over a drawing tablet of some kind you can also find me curled up with a good book, cuddling with my cat, Howl, or baking brownies.
